3 January 22

January 3, 2022 by slow shimo

Isolation Blues go away surprisingly fast. Rain reigns, go away, too much rain is pain pain pain. It has been raining non stop now for the past few days. Either it starts in the morning and goes up to 4pm or right after lunch til nighttime. Sometimes, it rains through the night. At least my plants don’t need watering. I just saw a bird, Bem-Te-Vi, perched on the wire (16h34ish). It has yellow feathers adorning its tummy. Immobile in the […]

This Ciliate is about to Die. Atrophy: (of body tissue or an organ) waste away, especially as a result of the degeneration of cells, or become vestigial during evolution. “without exercise, the muscles will atrophy” gradually decline in effectiveness or vigor due to underuse or neglect. “her artistic skills atrophied from lack of use” Opposite of atrophy: strength So this is a diary entry. Meat: lunch with Alda (aunt), Miki (cousin), Nilza (mother). Discussed atrophied grandmother (future self?). The year […]

prehistory: barbaric invasions

March 19, 2020 by slow shimo

Germination: July 2019, a small seed was growing. Flat chested, I felt it. Only I did, feel it. The doctor missed the mark. October 2019, routine shower, soaping up, there it is again. I called in reinforcements, was subjected to tests. Most likely a cyst. You can joke about it whilst you wait for test results, it’s likely to be nothing. Something came up which needed closer examining. What is B-RADS4? Google it, investigate further, puncture deeper. We’re in December […]

somatization

What came first, chicken or the egg? Irrelevant. Hesse had a cat scan in mid October 2019. Diagnosis: meningioma tumor in the fourth ventricle, which I googled, stems from your cerebral aqueduct (aqueduct of Sylvius) to the obex. Cancer. What came first, chicken or the egg? Irrelevant.

everything a mountain can mean

December 31, 2019 by slow shimo

It was there, nudging me — look at me, look at me! But, like most things in life, I chose to push it aside. Self diagnosis concluding the overall inability to diagnose lumps due to an overall lack of expertise and life-accumulated incapacity of following written instructions. But, like most things in life, the lump did not disappear simply because I wished it so. That bumpy pop remained. Come December 23, the diagnosis was printed: Invasive Breast Cancer.

yasunari ikenaga

May 16, 2017 by slow shimo

Taken from Juxtapoz Magazine (August 09, 2016) Born in 1965, artist Ikenaga Yasunari’s serene and soothing portraits of modern women evoke a dreamy nostalgia through their faded golden hues and elegant floating poses. Using a Menso brush, mineral pigments, and soot ink on linen cloth, Yasunari continues the ancient tradition of Nihonga painting while simultaneously bringing modern elements to play, such as present-day clothing styles and floral textile designs. The result is both beautiful and melancholy, capturing the timelessness of […]

teach yourself italian

February 15, 2016 by slow shimo

Teach Yourself Italian (jhumpa lahiri) The New Yorker, December 07, 2015     EXILE My relationship with Italian takes place in exile, in a state of separation. Every language belongs to a specific place. It can migrate, it can spread. But usually it’s tied to a geographical territory, a country. Italian belongs mainly to Italy, and I live on another continent, where one does not readily encounter it. I think of Ovid, exiled from Rome to a remote place. To a […]

gud package: 01. the slip

November 19, 2015 by slow shimo

Structural Packaging Design: Agile Rabbit Editions Packaging is a key factor in practically all forms of trade: it is crucial to protect, store and ship goods, and, in many cases, the design of a package is the first a customer sees when confronted with any type of product. Consumers react immediately to package shapes, and are influenced by them when making buying decisions. Different product categories are often easy to recognise by their characteristic form, for example chocolate boxes or […]
